They toil in the field,
swinging scythes to hew us down.
Digging holes and cutting trenches
to plant us in the ground,
they sow the saints as grain
into earth that they have plowed.
From broken branches fall
fruitful boughs grown ripe and shaken,
spilling blood-seed on the soil
for the coming generation.
Our enemies have labored
helping harvest up the nations.

Perhaps the reason God has worked so urgently in these recent times of my life is because the earlier years of loud, outspoken error must have caused an unusually large number of people to pray for me.

I am more inclined to marry an ailing woman with a long list of infirmities, whose heart beats for the glory of God and the good of souls, than to fix my desires upon a woman with perfect health everywhere except for her heart of stone. I can bear hospital bills, grief and loss of beloved life, more easily than to think of spending a penny or a moment satiating a woman who does not care to pray heartfully that God's will be done.
